York City RTC Football Coach Secures National Women's Coaching Role

3 Nov 2017 by David Winterburn

It’s great news that Gaz Lee, York City RTC U16, York College’s Football Development Centre Coordinator and Head of Women’s Football, has been selected to be part of the coaching team for this year’s English Colleges Football Association (ECFA) National Women’s Team.

The ECFA’s National Team programme is the ultimate goal for students aiming to represent the college sector at National level. The ECFA’s national team is linked with the Football Association’s talent pathway for Female footballers becoming internationals, eg ECFA alumni, England and Manchester City star player Jill Scott.

Gaz follows in the footsteps of former Sport Development Centre Coordinator, Gordon Staniforth, and former students Hannah Greenwood and Rosie Todd who each represented York College at ECFA National level in either a coaching or playing capacity. Gaz says: “ It’s a great pleasure to be selected to be part of an exciting programme with the ECFA, I am looking forward to bringing my nine year’s coaching experience in the female football sector to the programme, and to working with future England and Women’s Superleague players.”

Having one of the sector’s best coaches heading up the Female Football Development Centre is a real coup for York College. Gaz has worked with current senior and junior internationals at all levels of the female game and he is keen to build the reputation of the College’s Female Football Development Centre as one of the best in the region. He says: “We are one of a few in the area who are in Category 1 in the ECFA leagues and play the best teams in the country on a regular basis. York College is fully supportive of the development of female footballers and aims help them achieve their potential both on and off the field.”
